SCHOLARLY RESOURCE # 4 ABOUT JAILS

In one of my visits to the site that hostess the class I was observing, the manager of that center provided me with a very helpful book, A Guide for formerly Incarcerated People in New York City.  This book has many resources that are available in the Bronx, Staten Island and Manhattan.  And the services range from  Literacy and English classes, Career and Education and Information Services,  Health and Mental Hygiene to legal services to help former inmates seal their record when they had not been convicted of crimes. Since many a times we educators have to wear many hats to help our students, I think a book  guide like this might  be helpful in that it provides us with information to pass on to students, should they be current or former inmates.  The page is within the NYPL website and it has the Guide to formerly Incarcerated People in New York City on pdf.  Here is the link http://www.nypl.org/help/community-outreach/correctional-services
